Crazy Week
Launching New Churches, Launching ProcessMy goal of trying to post to the blog at least every-other day took a little hit this week. But it’s for good reason, because a lot has been happening! Here’s a quick update on each of the areas that we’ve been working on:
Proposal – After collecting a bunch of church plant proposals (just got yet another one today), I finalized the content for ours. After my “coach” looks over it with me, it will go out to about 40 churches asking for prayer, mission teams, and money.
Graphics – We finalized a letterhead and the basic layout for the proposal. This is big because it will make all of the “branding” easier (web, mail outs, etc.) and all the millions of other little things that have to be designed (bulletins, offering envelopes, sermon notes, business cards, banners, etc.). Thankfully we have Tyler who is amazingly gifted at design work and, most importantly, free!
...
Intern – My wife and I met with our intern and his wife and they are pumped. It is going to be great having them help us get things off the ground. After we met, within an hour he had already started talking to UT students about how they can get plugged in and make their “OneLife” make a difference. I’m way excited about this.
Location – Got the facility request form from the school and emailed the principal to set up a time to meet with him. Really praying we will be able to have our services there.
Meetings – Met with a partner church who is really excited about the new church. Once the proposal is finished they are going to meet with their elders about sending people and money to the launch team. Also met with a guy who has been part of a successful church plant in North Carolina and could help us or one of our patner churchers with worship leading. Very sharp and down to earth. I'm anxious to see how God might use him.
Seminary – Just finished week three of an eight-week blitz. Instead of a full 16-week semester of four classes, you take two at a time in one eight-week session. The theory is you can get more accomplished by not having as much down time. It’s a lot of work but I really am learning a lot. By summer I will FINALLY have my masters degree.
So that’s been my week. Throw in the preparation and rehearsal for leading worship this Sunday and working with the UT Baptist Collegiate Ministry students on All-Sing and it’s been busy to say the least! But I’m having the time of life.
Thank you, Lord, for letting me do what I love.
