Building Our Team
Launching New Churches, Launching Process, StrategyThe success of a church plant – in man’s eyes, that is – is all in how you come out of the gate. Statistics show churches that don’t reach 200 in attendance in the first two years probably never will. So a new strategy in church planting is to launch large and reach as many people as possible as early as possible. Some argue that starting small is best because, after all, the New Testament church met in houses. But historians tell us that the homes they met in probably held upwards of 300 people. So while that debate rages on, our desire is to reach as many lost people as possible for Christ.
A key to doing that is having a solid launch team. This is a group of about 50 people, including children, who commit to seeing the new church get started. They will serve as the children’s workers, ushers, greeters, tech crew, praise band, set-up and tear-down teams, and much more. More than all of those roles, they will be the foundation that the church builds upon. They will invite their friends, give sacrificially to the financial needs, and give of their time when most people would be doing their own thing.
So where in the world do you find these folks?
...
That’s where we are in a very blessed position. Having five churches support this new work gives us a great pool to find those God is calling to help get us started. Our goal is to see two to three families per church commit to joining OneLife’s launch team. This is a permanent commitment that will require leadership, vision, and a passion for reaching unchurched people.
Already this team is starting to develop. At least four families are committed with several others praying about their involvement. It is going to be exciting over the next month or so as we start meeting with more and more people who are interested in OneLife Church. I know God is going to assemble an amazing team of people and I can’t wait to see who they are.
Are you one of those God may be calling on to do this?
