Key Words - Intentional
Launching New Churches, StrategyAs I've been preparing for the launch of OneLife Church, I have been on staff at three churches and visited nine others. One thing that I picked up quickly is churches that are truly reaching lost and unchurched people having one thing in common - they are intentional.
Now most of those churches would claim to be intentional. But few really are. That's why less than 3% of the growing churches in America are growing from conversion growth. Here's what intentional really looks like and what OneLife Church will strive to do.
Nothing we do will distract from reaching people for Christ and everything we do will have a clear cut way it helps accomplish this. Sermons, events, websites, mailings, and anything else will be intentional in the way that it points someone toward the gospel.
Here are some examples. Most recently Easter Egg Hunts were the big event. This summer, VBS and camps will be the event of choice. At some churches there are groups of all kinds for men, women, moms, seniors, kids, etc. These are all awesome opportunities. The difference is this: is the question of "what's next?" being asked? If there is a clear cut answer to that, and it lines up with the overall vision, then it is intentional. If not, these types of things are just wasted events.
OneLife Church, or any other church in my opinion, doesn't have the time to just do events. Jesus is coming back and people need him! We will be intentional at making sure everything we do points people toward that.
