An Update
Launching New Churches, Launching ProcessAfter a week and a half of no real blog post, it’s time for an update. OneLife has a lot of momentum going for us right now. Here’s a quick rundown.
Launch Team – Our launch team continues to grow. We have right at 25 adults and several kids. When I think about the first sermon I ever preached at Friendship Church to just 15 adults (3 of which were first time guests) I’m reminded of how blessed we are. Friendship grew like crazy from that point and I have no doubt OneLife will do the same. Our last Launch Team meeting was the best. This Sunday we practice setting up at the school for the first time.

Worship Leader – For several weeks I was starting to get pretty bummed about our worship leader situation. It looked bleak. I started to think I would have to suck it up and do both worship and preaching for a while. Then, at a moment of desperation, I just gave the situation to God. I now have leads on six potential guys! How it went from zero to that many is beyond me – it’s only God. Best of all, I think I’ve narrowed it down to who God wants for us and I’m very excited. Hopefully I can get some of these other guys to help out some of the other church plants around that need worship leaders.
Finances – God continues to provide for our finances. Since my last post, two churches have given some start-up funds and two have committed to small monthly gifts. Every little bit helps! We have whittled our original start-up budget of $90,000 down to $65,000 and are within about $4,000 of that goal. The light is at the end of the tunnel and I’m trusting God we’ll see that last little bit come in over the next couple of weeks.
Promotions – We had our first big introduction to Powell this past weekend at the 4th of July Parade. It was incredible. The trailer got lettered for free so we pulled it like a big moving billboard. We also gave out around 900 doorhangers, threw out 50 t-shirts and more than 3,000 pieces of candy. In the next couple of weeks we’ll have mission teams pass out 4,000 more door hangers, an email blast will go out to all of Knoxville, and 5 billboards in the Powell community will go up. Can’t wait to see how God uses it all! Best of all, we’ve had many of these promotions either donated or prices reduced.
Only 2 ½ weeks until our first public service. Pray with us that God brings many people who are far from Him!
