Time to Tweak
Launching New Churches, Launching Process, LeadershipI had an interview with the Knoxville News-Sentinel yesterday for quite a long time. It went really well and I'm really looking forward to the article in next week's paper. One of the questions she asked was "Why are you doing the preview services instead of just starting?" To be honest, if I had answered this question two weeks ago I would have had to make something up. I didn't fully understand why we shouldn't just start full blown on July 26.
But after an awesome first preview service, I now see that it's time to tweak a few things before the next one. Instead of rushing through a week to make those adjustments, we have time to celebrate the great day that we had and rethink a few simple areas.
...
The great news about Sunday, though, is that nothing major went bad on us. It's not like we didn't get setup on time or had a kid run away from our children's ministries. So the things we need to tweak are simple systems to help us get better. Things like moving our volunteers around to have a better welcoming atmosphere, repositioning some of the signage, starting the rehearsal/run through a few minutes earlier, being better prepared at our welcome table for guests and people who pray to receive Christ, etc.
The exciting thing about all of these little tweaks that we get to make is that it will only prepare us to reach more people. I'm convinced that Luke 16:10 applies to us even in this situation when it says "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much..." Our goal is to be trustworthy in the little things now so God will entrust us with more in the future.
I can't wait to see what that future looks like!
