The Unlikely - God's Favorite Targets
Launching New Churches, FaithI had lunch today with a student at UT who will be leading worship every Thursday night for a campus worship service. Talking with him took me back to 7 years ago when I was leading worship for the same service each week.
I'll never forget the first time I did it. It was just me singing and playing a keyboard with a girl singing too. I was freaked out. And I wasn't very good, either. I had never led worship solo like that and didn't really know much about what I was doing.
I look back on that and wonder "How in the world did I end up doing that in the first place?"
...
I never had more than about six months of formal piano lessons and when I was a kid my mom would practically ask me to not sing - it was rough. But some how, God chose me to start leading worship as a college student. So I did. Then a band developed around me and I fell in love with leading worship and leading teams of people. Because of that, I ended up leading worship at several churches and was exposed to ministry in the local church. Had it not been for the Baptist Collegiate Minstry at UT letting me - an unlikely person - fill that role, I may not be where I am today.
So then this morning I'm preparing my sermon for this Sunday's preview service. The passage of Scripture is Mark 1:16-20, talking about Jesus calling the disciples to follow him. They, too, were unlikely targets but he chose them anyway.
What great reminders that God doesn't care about the stuff we care about when it comes to picking and choosing who will do great things for Him. When we go with Jesus, he really does want our one life to make a difference and will help us leave a legacy that will last for eternity.
I'm pumped about seeing that happen through OneLife Church this Sunday! Don't miss it.
