Calm Before the Storm
Launching New Churches, FaithIt's hard to believe that in two weeks from today the launch of OneLife Church will be complete. After two years of build up, we are cocked and loaded to fire away and get this thing started.
So for now it feels like the calm before the storm. We've done two preview services that have both blown our minds. All of the equipment that we need has been purchased. The Launch Team has all been assigned to their volunteer roles. The first two services are all planned out. The advertising and marketing is complete. So now we wait.
...
But what I don't think we know how to handle is the fact that after the first Sunday, the next one is just seven days away. Not two years, not a month. One week. And during that week we'll have follow up, planning, and all kinds of other fun stuff we haven't yet considered.
That means these next two weeks will find us in a place we'll never be again. A place of peace and quiet where we can just relax and pray. But then again, maybe this is a place we need to force ourselves to go back to. A place where we can avoid burnout, fatigue, loss of passion, and all that seems to come with the territory of "doing" church. My prayer is that God will help me to do just that, and remember to every once in a while let the storms pass and reharness the quietness that we all so desperately need.
