Ready or Not!
Launching New ChurchesYou know that feeling the night before you had your first child? Wondering what he will look like, how much hair will there be, will everything be healthy, how fast will she grow, will he be successful when he grows up, will people make fun of her name in school, will I be a good parent. I’ve never had a child, but I’m pretty sure I can relate.
...
OneLife Church is on the eve of being born and I have a lot of those same questions. The success rate of church plants is similar to that of having a baby 150 years ago. It’s a toss up. If everything goes well, she should be healthy. But if a few things go wrong during the birth, it could be bad for the baby and the rest of the family.
But now is no time for fear. Just like the giddy parents waiting on the birth of their first child, we are excited and hopeful. Fear would only prevent us from preparing to be the best parents of this baby that we could be. After all, as I’ve been saying all along, it’s not really our baby anyway.
Jesus told Peter that it was His church to build, not Peter’s. But he did promise to build it. God told Jeremiah that He knows the plans that are in store, plans to "prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Regardless of how it feels to us finite humans, our infinite God promises to give us hope for the future.
So like any good parent, we’ve planned and prepared as best we can. Now it’s up to God to do His thing and take us for a ride. Three days from now, the ride will begin. Ready or not, here she comes!
