Sunday Recap, 10.11.09
Launching New ChurchesIt felt like there was a ton of momentum heading into this week and the start of our new series. But at 10:55 I started thinking "This is the week it happens. The week nobody shows up." Then all of the sudden everybody showed up at the last minute. And it was another incredible, God-honoring day at OneLife!
...
- The new series we started today is called "Break Out."
- Today was one of the harder passages of scripture I've preached.
- Romans 7:15-24 synopsis: On our own we are no good and trapped in a cycle we can't break out of. Romans 7:25: Jesus is our first step to breaking out!
- Had to make a fool out of myself a couple of times to help the more confusing passages come alive. A couple of not-so-smart stories from this week in my personal life made it possible.
- Story number one: I ran a tractor through my neighbor's fence on Friday. Woops.
- Story number two: I can't hide anything from my wife. Even when I try to use a leafblower in the house to dry off the comforter. You'll have to listen to the podcast or watch online for all the juicy details
- Next week we look at the difference between temptation and sin and how we can break out of feeling trapped in temptation.
- Two people started a relationship with Jesus today!
- Attendance nearly matched our Launch Day attendance from just four weeks ago. We had 152 - that's not supposed to happen!
- We had a ton of college students today from UT, Johnson Bible College, and Carson-Newman.
- I'm going to start a boycott of Fall Break at UT and Knox County Schools. Already dreading that a lot of our folks will be out next week.
- My favorite quote of the day from a new OneLifer: "I have to work the next three Sundays and I'm just sick about it! This is the first church I've ever been part of that I didn't want to miss a Sunday." Bullseye!
- The band was the best they've been yet. Several new songs and great energy. Dillan and the gang just keep getting better.
- The stage set was re-designed to match the series. Kudos to Tyler for that - simple but very effective. But of course I forgot to take a picture!
- Another blazing fast set up and tear down by the volunteer teams. You would never believe we do it all in less than an hour if you just came in and saw it all set up.
- Already looking forward to next Sunday. I hope you will be there and as always, bring someone with you!!!
