Sunday Recap, 10.25.09 - a HUGE win!
Launching New ChurchesGonna do the Sunday recap a little bit differently this week because we had a HUGE win on Sunday morning that really pumped me up!
...
Last Sunday we had our usual gauntlet of first time guests. That's got to be one of the more exciting things of church planting - seeing new faces every week. One of those new faces was a guy named Jarrett. I noticed Jarrett pretty quickly because for the first time in our short history, I had some "Amens" happening during the sermon! It was great. I felt like Tony Evans or something!
Fast forward to this Sunday. Still not knowing Jarrett's story or if he would be back, I was in the lobby at 10:45 when I noticed a small, white bus pull into the parking lot. I wondered if it was passing through or turning around until it finally parked and 17 men got out.
One-by-one they filed in the front doors and into the auditorium. I didn't completely understand why they all came together until after the service and one of the gentlemen came up to me. He introduced himself as the director of Genesis Recovery Center. He told me about one of their clients (Jarrett) who had come to our service last week and went back to the center extremely excited about the church he had just gone to. "We've got to take ALL the guys next week!" he said.
So they did. And these guys ate it up, including one who prayed to receive Christ! How awesome of God to bring Jarrett to OneLife when we were starting a series on "Breaking Out" of sin, addiction, and temptation right in the middle of his own recovery. How awesome that God allowed us to then minister to a bus load of other guys seeking healing and restoration, too.
This was a HUGE win for OneLife. Jesus said "It's not the healthy that need a doctor." We didn't start this church for a bunch of church people to switch churches. We started this church to reach people who desperately need God to rock their world. Fortunately, that's all of us and if we will all humble ourselves like these guys have, we will see that we are all in need of restoration to a perfect God.
I'm glad that perfect God trusted OneLife enough to give us a HUGE win.
